BALLET is a formalized style of movement that started in the courts of Europe. It has established terminology and sets of exercises that are incorporated into barre and then center work. Body placement, posture, balance, flexibility, and coordination are stressed. Training in Ballet is essential to the skilled development of all other dance.
FLOOR BARRE is a Ballet based technique class that works without the pull of gravity and allows correct alignment and movement to become part of the dancers muscle memory. Through a series of exercises the physical structure is centered, maximum turnout and extension are developed, and long lines are created.
JAZZ borrows from Modern and Ballet technique and develops stylistically. Therefore, it is wise, and strongly recommended, to study Ballet and/or Modern concurrently with Jazz. Jazz adapts itself easily to a variety of styles, including Broadway, music videos, TV, and concert performances. Classes consist of a warm-up, floor stretch, center barre, progressions across the floor, and center combinations using the style being emphacised .
MODERN evolved from the "breaking of the rules" of strict Ballet. Exploration of the basic elements of dance - time,
space, energy, relationships and the coordination of our bodies- builds on the student's natural creativity to develop an understanding of the essence of all dance forms. It complements Ballet and Jazz training.
